I will share with you a real incident:<\/p>\n

Recently, we formed a focus group for a specific sales project. Among other things, we asked the leaders, “Do you do coaching?” With the possible exception of one manager, everyone answered, “Yes, I constantly coach my salespeople.” Next, we asked the salespeople the same question, “How is your coaching going? Are you in a coaching program?” The answer was the same from everyone, “What is coaching? I have no idea what that is.”<\/p>\n

Oops… Yes, it’s hard for some to accept, but the reality is that there’s often a huge gap between how well some leaders or managers coach and how well the employees are actually coached. But why is this ultimately so important?<\/p>\n

The purpose of coaching is to help employees understand what they need to do and ensure their commitment that they will eventually do it.<\/p>\n

And here arises the question.<\/p>\n

What is the final difference between academic and corporate training?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Simply put:<\/p>\n

Academic training<\/strong> takes the information, presents it in front of them, and documents it with a test at the end.<\/p>\n

Corporate training<\/strong>, however, takes the knowledge that the employee has in their head, brings it out, and puts it into operation aiming for results.<\/p>\n

The reason coaching is so important compared to training is because it manages to get employees to adopt new behaviours<\/strong>. This is how you manage to get your people to actually apply what’s in their heads or what they have learned from training.<\/p>\n

When you train your employees, you usually train them on topics concerning corporate processes, setting and monitoring goals, sales methodologies, customer service, and how to use the CRM system, etc. The purpose of training<\/strong> is to show your employees what they need to do.<\/p>\n

The purpose of coaching<\/strong> is to help them improve how they do it. Some of your salespeople may know the sales process, the methodology, and the CRM but still struggle to initiate a substantial conversation with the client, address certain concerns, or complete a deal. Your employees should receive coaching to help them overcome these specific weaknesses.<\/p>\n

Coaching can be a modern addition to educational services for improving and developing the professional skills of employees or executives.<\/p>\n
